Gymkhana, Mayfair

www.gymkhanalondon.com

Gymkhana in Albemarle Street, Mayfair, serves contemporary Indian cuisine using seasonal British ingredients, with a strong focus in the tandoori oven.

The interior design of Gymkhana references British Raj India, with ceiling fans that hang from a dark-lacquered oak ceiling, cut glass wall lamps from Jaipur and hunting trophies from the Maharaja of Jodhpur. Reminiscent of the gymkhana clubs, the dining room is flanked by turned oak booths with marble tables and fluted, bitter chocolate leather banquettes. A large marble bar stands before an antique leaded mirror work, providing a backdrop to the room.

The lower ground floor of Gymkhana is a modern day interpretation of a 17th Century East India punch house, with a grand aged brass bar at its heart. The room features slatted oak wall panelling, porcelain chequerboard floor tiles and inky blue leather love booths and banquettes. On either side of the room two secluded, sunken vaults are located, one that seats up to nine guests and the other seating up to sixteen guests.

Discreet appearance and high sound quality were the key objectives for the venue’s audio, which was designed and installed by Marquee AV. Bose Freespace micro-cube and compact on-wall loudspeakers were chosen to provide quality with minimal visual impact. These are controlled and powered by TOA mixer anplifiers, with Cloud remote control panels providing quick and easy system control by the staff.
